with tcsh-6.17-19.el6_2.x86_64 installed, if I attempt to login remotely via ssh, there's a long pause before I get a login prompt. An strace of the tcsh process shows it's trying to read the ~/.history. If I remove this file, I can login immediately. However, at logout, it has written to .history and pauses the same amount of time trying to access .history.
