Since the upgrade to Firefox 24.2.0-1, Firefox will hang on shutdown when visiting pages with active content. For example, simply visiting www.java.com will prevent Firefox from completely shutting down. If you try to open another browser window, you receive the message:

"Firefox is already running on your computer. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

The issue occurs for both 32 and 64 bit versions, either using /usr/bin/firefox, /usr/lib/firefox/firefox or /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox. It does not seem to matter whether you install the java plugin or not. The behavior is the same if you run firefox with the -safe-mode argument and if you disable all plugins, or have none installed.

visiting a site with Java creates the notification "JVMLauncher.afterstart(): starting JVM process watcher". This also occurred in previous versions. When you attempt to close the browser, the message "NOTE: child process received `Goodbye', closing down." The process never seems to return.
