As soon as the laptop starts to boot, the screen dims and remains so throughout boot up, login and use. A restart results in the screen immediately brightening until the boot up begins again.<br />

Using any of the earlier available OS versions i.e. 2.6.32-431.20.3, the screen remains bright as expected.<br />

I believe the graphics are the Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/960 Integrated Graphics Controller.
