I upgraded Centos 5.8 to 5.9 couple of weeks ago, via desktop update notifier (whatever it is called) - it updated lots of packages, including the kernel, and after the upgrade /etc/redhat-release says it is Centos 5.9. New kernel version was 2.6.18-348.el5.

Upgrade completed successfully, but when I tried to reboot after the upgrade, the system did not boot successfully, instead the kernel panicked.

I was able to boot the system by selecting previous kernel v. 2.6.18-308.24.1.el5 in the grub menu. System worked for week or so after the boot without any problems.

Today the desktop update notifier told me that there is a new kernel update, for the version 2.6.18-348.1.1.el5. I updated the system, but again during the reboot the kernel panicked. I reboot again using the old kernel 2.6.18-308.24.1.el5.

I'm attaching a screenshot - literally, phone camera shot of the of the monitor with the kernel panic text on it. The phone camera is not very good, but I think all text on the screen is readable.
